Human Rights & Labor Rights
ATN believes in respect for human rights as a foundational principle. We believe that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. As an international telecommunications service provider, strive to respect and promote human rights in all of the markets in which we do business. We have developed this Human and Labor Rights Policy (this “Policy”) to set forth the guiding principles of ATN’s approach to human rights. This Policy is guided by the international human rights principals encompassed by The International Bill of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization’s 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. This Policy applies to ATN and all entities that we own or in which we hold a majority interest.
Our corporate culture establishes standards whereby we do not tolerate violations of basic human rights of life, liberty, and security. We do not condone any inhumane treatment, particularly sexual harassment, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, mental or physical coercion, corporal punishment, forced labor, child labor, human trafficking, or slavery.
With respect to our employee base, we embrace a respectful and diverse culture. ATN respects our employees’ human rights and does not tolerate discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability or any other factor prohibited by law.
ATN prohibits the use of all forms of forced labor, including prison labor, indentured labor, bonded labor, military labor, modern forms of slavery and any form of human trafficking. We also prohibit child labor, including the hiring of individuals that are under 18 years of age for positions in which hazardous work is required.
In all of our relationships (as an employer, service provider, business partner and general corporate citizen) we strive to establish a culture that respects and promotes human rights at a fundamental level. In addition, we expect all of our employees and business partners to uphold the same principles and ideals embodied in this Policy, as well as our Business Practice & Ethics and Vendors & Suppliers policies. We strongly urge all of our business partners to adopt similar policies within their own businesses.
ATN historically provides telecommunications services to the traditionally unserved or underserved areas of its markets. Enabling our users to communicate and to access and exchange information is a fundamental component of the freedom of expression and association. We are therefore particularly committed to providing access to high speed internet services in rural communities in order to bridge the rural digital divide. Finally, as a sizeable portion of our business is derived on the Navajo Nation, ATN is committed to respecting all indigenous and tribal peoples’ human rights and we abide by the principles of the International Labor Organization’s Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention, 1989 (No. 169).
